St. Paul Saints News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - For seven innings neither team could come up with a big hit. The game remained scoreless until the eighth when the St. Paul Saints finally broke through. Those runs, along with another strong pitching performance, helped the Saints win for the fourth consecutive game, 4-2 over the Indianapolis Indians on Friday night at Victory Field. The win improves the Saints to 8-4 on the season.

Aaron Sanchez started for the Saints and worked around numerous jams in his five innings of work. He helped himself out as he induced three double plays over the first four innings. In his 5.0 shutout innings he allowed six hits while walking three and striking out two and stranding six runners on base. The big play for Sanchez came in the second with runners at first and third and one out. Josh Bissonette hit a weak tapper towards the mound that Sanchez fielded with his glove and flipped the ball with his glove to the plate ahead of the runner Miguel Andujar to record the out.

Saints reliever Cody Laweryson got out of a second and third one out jam in the seventh by striking out Aaron Shackelford and getting Bissonette to fly out to right. Laweryson went 2.0 shutout innings allowing three hits and striking out one.

The Saints finally broke through in the eighth. Alex De Goti led off with a double to left. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Chris Williams was then hit by a pitch to force in a run and give the Saints a 1-0 lead. With the infield drawn in, Andrew Stevenson grounded one up the middle and under the glove of a backhanded attempt by the second baseman Nick Gonzalez and into center field scoring two and putting the Saints up 3-0.

In the ninth, the Saints added a big insurance run. With two outs Hernán Pérez was hit by a pitch. Contreras ripped a double to right and Cal Mitchell couldn't come up with the ball cleanly as Pérez scored on the error to make it 4-0. Contreras went 2-3 with two doubles and a run scored.

Joey Gallo went 1-3 with a double in his first Major League rehab appearance. His first inning double was the hardest hit ball of the night, and third hardest by a Saints player this season at 111.6 mph.

The Saints nearly had the shutout, but with two outs in the ninth, Tucupita Marcano singled. He advanced to second on indifference and scored on a triple from Endy Rodríguez making it 4-1. Rodríguez scored on a wild pitch, but Brock Stewart finished the game off with a strikeout of Mitchell.

The Saints haven't trailed in the series and have allowed just nine earned runs in the first four games.

The same two teams meet in game five of a six-game series on Saturday night at 5:35 p.m. (CT). The Saints send RHP Simeon Woods Richardson (0-1, 4.91) to the mound against Indians RHP Quinn Priester (1-1, 7.27). The game can be heard on KFAN Plus, 96.7 FM.
