Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
CHARLOTTE - Bryan Hoeing yielded only an unearned run in 5.1 strong innings Friday, but the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp's five-game winning streak came to an end with a 3-2 loss in 10 innings to the Charlotte Knights from Truist Field.
Billy Hamilton started the 10th inning on second base with the score tied at two. Laz Rivera laid down a sacrifice bunt before intentional walks to Zach Remillard and Adam Haseley loaded the bases. Jacksonville (7-5) reliever Anthony Maldonado (0-1) then gave up an infield single to Victor Reyes to score Hamilton for Charlotte (6-7) to win the game.
The Knights scored the game's first run in the second. Evan Skoug singled to lead off the inning. After a strikeout, an error put runners on second and third. Hamilton then registered an RBI ground out.
Hoeing dominated from there, retiring the final 12 batters he faced in the effort. He just an unearned run on two hits in 5.1 frames. The right-hander struck out five without walking a batter.
Unfortunately for the Jumbo Shrimp, Charlotte starter Davis Martin also was strong, fanning 11 in 6.0 shutout frames. However, with Martin out of the game, Jacksonville tied the score in the seventh. With one out, Charles Leblanc walked, Brian Miller singled and Jake Mangum was hit by a pitch to load the bases. C.J. Hinojosa then drew a free pass to force in Leblanc and tie the game.
Charlotte regained command in the eighth when Reyes homered with two outs to make it 2-1.
However, in the ninth, the Jumbo Shrimp were able to rally once again. Mangum singled and an error put runners on first and second. Jordan Groshans laced an RBI single to center to plate Mangum and knot the score at two.
Jacksonville plays at Charlotte in Saturday's 6:05 p.m. contest. RHP Jeff Lindgren (1-0, 0.00 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp. Coverage begins at 5:50 p.m. on ESPN 690, www.ESPN690.com and the MiLB First Pitch app.
