Knights Walk Off With 3-2 Win On Friday
April 14, 2023 - International League (IL)
Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights walked off with an impressive 3-2 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in 10 innings on Friday night in game four of the six-game series from Truist Field. The Knights scored two runs over the final three innings en route to the team's first win of the season against the Jumbo Shrimp.
Tied by a score of 2-2 in the bottom of the 10th inning, the Knights mounted a comeback. Center fielder Billy Hamilton started the inning at second base and third baseman Laz Rivera quickly followed with a sacrifice bunt. With Hamilton now at third base representing the winning run, the Jumbo Shrimp decided to intentionally walk the next two batters in the inning to load the bases. With one out and the bases now loaded, Víctor Reyes stepped to the plate. The rest was history.
Reyes, who launched a 431-foot home run to give the Knights a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, came through again. This time, he connected on the game-winning hit. His single, which landed just up the third base line, was enough for Hamilton to race home and give the Knights the 3-2 walk-off win.
RHP J.B. Olson (1-0, 8.31) earned his first win of the season after he pitched a scoreless 10th inning. RHP Davis Martin started the game for the Knights and was sharp all night. Martin struck out 11 batters over six shutout innings. He allowed just three hits, walked three batters and tossed 101 pitches.
The Knights will continue the six-game series on Saturday night against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins). First pitch on Saturday is set for 6:05 p.m. from Truist Field. Fans can listen to the game live on www.CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action. Saturday's game will also be broadcast live on My12 WMYT with former Knights pitcher Mike Wright joining Matt and Mike in the booth.
