Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - Trevor Gooch slammed in a rebound midway through the third period, but the Reading Royals fell, 4-1, to the Worcester Railers Friday at Santander Arena. Reading is 12-3-1-0 at home this season.

Gooch beat Railers goalie Evan Buitenhuis (win, 30 svs) 10:56 into the final frame for his fifth goal of the season. He scored for the second time in four games.

The Royals are home Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for Craft Beer Night, pres. by Deibler Dental, to rematch Worcester.

Railers forward Ben Thomson tapped home a loose puck to open the scoring 32 seconds into the contest. Three minutes later, Ivan Chukarov beat Felix Sandström (3 GA, 15 SV) over the shoulder to double Worcester's lead.

Worcester extended its advantage to 3-0 at 6:10 of the final frame on a short-handed goal from Railers defenseman Ryan MacKinnon.

The Railers' 19 shots were the second-fewest shots allowed by the Royals all season (Norfolk, Nov. 2, 18 shots).

Second-period shutdown

For the 12th time this season the Royals held their opponent scoreless in the second frame.

Reading hasn't allowed a middle-frame tally in three of the last five games (Maine Dec. 27, Brampton Dec. 29). In Sandström's last nine starts, the Royals have given up a second-period strike in just two contests.

Friday was the first time Reading held Worcester off the second-period scoresheet in three tries this season. The Railers have failed to hit twine in the second frame in ten of 32 contests this season.
