South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- A night after being shutout by Elmira goaltender C.J. Motte, captain Andrew Rowe and the South Carolina Stingrays responded with a big night offensively in a 4-1 victory over the Jackals Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum. Rowe notched a goal and two assists, and Colin Mulvey, Derek DeBlois and Nick Jones all had multi-point games.

South Carolina jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two goals in 19 seconds late in the first period. Brendan Ellis scored his first professional goal at 18:22 to open the scoring. Rowe's attempt towards the goal from the right wing was blocked, but bounced back to Ellis at the point. The defender's blast from the blue line beat an out-of-position Motte to give the Stingrays a 1-0 lead.

On the next rush up the ice, the Stingrays struck again. Mulvey threw a pass from the right corner boards to the front of the goal. DeBlois stood alone on the edge of the crease and tipped Mulvey's pass under Motte for his third goal of the year at 18:41.

Mulvey would add a goal of his own at the 9:29 mark of the second period. The forward's wrist shot from the right wing beat Motte under the left arm to make it 3-0 South Carolina. Rowe assisted on the play, stealing the puck at the blue line to keep the play alive.

After a Mike Seidel goal for Elmira at the 16:57 mark of the second period, Rowe added his third point of the game and first goal of the season on the power play in the third period. DeBlois cycled the puck to Rowe. The forward walked to the slot but had his shot blocked. The rebound came right back to him, and the forward slipped a backhand shot under a sprawled Motte to make it 4-1 at 6:15.

Branden Komm, making his second start in goal for the Stingrays, stopped 20 shots to earn his second win. The Stingrays outshot Elmira 33-21.
