Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID - Mike Merrifield's first goal of the season was the final goal of the night, the overtime winner in a back-and forth affair that pushed the Atlanta Gladiators (5-2-1-0) over the Idaho Steelheads (4-4-2-0) for the second straight night, 5-4.

Brock Higgs carried the puck in the Steelheads' end and worked his way all around the zone, out-waiting the defense before sliding the puck through the slot to an uncovered Merrifield with an open net at 4:02 of overtime.

The Steelheads trailed four times on the evening and fought back to tie the score each time, with the line of Emil Molin, Jefferson Dahl, and Rob Linsmayer dominating throughout the evening. The line combined for all four goals on the night, with Molin and Dahl both having two-goal nights while Linsmayer picked up two assists to extend his points streak to a career-high five games (2 goals, 5 assists).

After Derek Nesbitt scored a power play goal at 5:29 of the first period, extending his goal-scoring streak to six games while snapping Idaho's streak of consecutive penalty kills at 18, the Steelheads answered right back. Hard forecheck work from Dahl and Linsmayer freed the puck for Molin in the high slot and he hammered his third of the season past goaltender Matt Ginn.

A defensive breakdown 48 seconds later left Tyler Murovich alone in front to put Atlanta back in the lead, but it was Zack Kamrass asserting himself on the forecheck, causing a turnover, and wristing a shot on net deflected in by Dahl at 12:17 of the first to send the Steelheads to the room tied.

At 15:36 of the second Nathan Condon broke in alone and beat Philippe Desrosiers to restore Atlanta's lead, only to see the Steelhead power play come through with six seconds left in the period to tie the game again on a high-slot blast from Dahl.

In the third. Atlanta got its second power play goal of the game, only the second time this season the Steelheads' third-ranked penalty kill has been beaten twice in the same game. Higgs attempted a pass down low from the right face-off dot, but the puck deflected off a Steelheads stick and popped over Desrosiers.

Emil Molin's second of the game tied the score at 11:16 of the third off a nifty feed in front from Linsmayer, enough to earn the Steelheads a point in the standings but not a win. The Steelheads are now 1-2-2 on home ice.

The Steelheads host the Atlanta Gladiators at CenturyLink Arena on Saturday night for their final home game before a nine-game road trip. The team will celebrate Military Appreciation Night, with puck-drop scheduled for 7:10 MT.
