Indy Fuel News Release

Indianapolis- Alex Lavoie notched a goal and an assist while Shane Owen made 23 saves as the Indy Fuel defeated the Quad City Mallards 5-2 on Saturday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

The win moves the Fuel back into a tie for first place in the ECHL's Midwest Division with 11 points.

Indy went up 2-0 in the first period on goals from Rhett Bly and Peter Schneider, but the Mallards responded with a pair of goals early in the second period.

After Vladimir Nikiforov knotted the score at 2-2 just 4:11 into the middle frame, Josh Brittain scored 1:56 later to give the Fuel a lead it would never relinquish. Brittain scored off his own rebound after a failed clear in the Quad City zone went to Anders Franzon at the right point, and his pass to Brittain in the slot found him wide open.

Garret Bembridge scored off the rush with a wrist shot from the left wing at 15:54 to make it 4-2, and Lavoie finished off the scoring in the third period after another Mallards giveaway allowed him to beat goaltender Steve Michalek (23 saves) on the glove side for the 5-2 final.
