Wheeling Nailers News Release

NORFOLK, VA- The Wheeling Nailers made their final visit of the regular season to Norfolk Scope Arena on Saturday night, but unfortunately, they didn't leave with smiles on their faces. Josh Currie scored a pair of goals for the Norfolk Admirals, who received a 36-save performance from goaltender Ty Rimmer in a 6-2 triumph over Wheeling.

The first period was as wild as the Nailers have seen in a while, as they and the Admirals combined for five goals on 25 shots. Norfolk's first goal came 27 seconds into the contest, when Connor Rankin jammed in the rebound of Ben Betker's chance from the left point. Wheeling pulled even a little more than midway through the frame. Sahir Gill won an offensive zone face-off to Clark Seymour, whose left point wrister was tipped into the goal by Zack Torquato. 32 seconds after that, the home team regained the lead, as Josh Currie found a loose puck on the right side of the crease. Once again, the Nailers answered. Riley Brace forced a turnover in the left corner, feeding Jarrett Burton, who clobbered a one-timer into the top-right corner of the cage. With less than a minute to go, the Admirals went back on top. Michael Pelech's pass through the slot to Betker got blocked to Charles-Olivier Roussel, who scored from the right side.

The contest settled down a bit in the middle stanza, which featured over eight minutes of continuous play. There was one goal scored, as Norfolk went ahead by two for the first time. Marcus Hinds snapped a pass ahead to Alexandre Ranger on the left side of neutral ice. Ranger did the rest of the work, utilizing his speed to get a step on the Wheeling defense, before slipping a forehand shot around Brian Foster's left pad for 4-2 Admirals lead.

The host squad completed its victory with two more tallies in the third period. Josh Currie's second of the night came shorthanded, as he forced his way in on the right side of the ice, whipping a shot just inside of the left post. Then, with 1:14 to go, Steven Whitney's empty netter iced the 6-2 final score.

Ty Rimmer turned in another strong game between the pipes for Norfolk, blocking away 36 of the 38 shots he faced. Brian Foster received the defeat for Wheeling, making 25 saves on 30 shots.

The Nailers will return home for four games this coming week, starting with the Education Day Field Trip Game on Tuesday at 10:35 a.m. against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Other events include Flat Screen Friday, presented by the Highlands and Bordas & Bordas, WVU College Night with Pat White and Steve Slaton on Saturday, and McDonald's $5 Kids Tickets and a post game skate with the team on Sunday .

Individual tickets, season tickets, mini plans, and group tickets are on sale now, with prices starting as low as $10 per seat. For tickets and more information, call the Nailers at (304) 234-GOAL or online at wheelingnailers.com.
