Utah Grizzlies News Release
Anchorage, Alaska - The Utah Grizzlies (5-3-1-0) defeated the Alaska Aces 4-1 Friday night at Sullivan Arena as they scored three-straight goals after Alaska tied the contest halfway through the third period.
Utah has now taken two-straight games from Alaska after a 4-2 win Wednesday. The series finale is Saturday in Anchorage at 9 p.m.
"We had some different guys step up tonight, it was a team effort," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham.
Ryan Misiak scored his first professional goal on a breakaway to give Utah the 2-1 lead with 6:23 left in regulation and that would prove to be the game-winner. The goal came 3:22 after Alaska tied the game at one on their 25th shot of the night.
Grizzlies goaltender Ryan Faragher improved to 5-0 on the season as he stopped 27 of 28 in the contest.
The Grizzlies got on the board with 2:35 left in the second period to break the scoreless tie as Shayne Taker threw in a shot from the point for his first goal of the season as Josh MacDonald and Misiak drew assists on a hardworking shift by Utah.
Utah made it 3-1 with 1:22 left in regulation as Erik Higby walked in uncontested and backhanded a shot top shelf on Alaska goaltender Troy Redmann on a great feed from captain Brent Gwidt. Defenseman Eric Knodel picked up his third assist in two games on the play.
Rookie Matt Berry finished the Utah scoring as he scored into an empty-net with 22 seconds left in regulation for his team leading seventh goal of the season.
