Tulsa Oilers News Release
IN SEARCH OF A SPLIT
The Oilers and Eagles clash on Saturday for the second time in two days and in the second of four total meetings this season. On Friday, in the first matchup between the two teams since March 12, 2011, the Oilers dropped a 3-1 decision and fell to 4-4-0-0 on the season. All-time, Tulsa is 11-28-4 against Colorado and 7-16-1 at the Budweiser Events Center.
HELD IN CHECK
The Oilers managed a season-low 12 shots on goal in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Eagles while allowing a season-high 40 shots on net. Colorado had at least twice as many shots as the Oilers in each period of the contest. Tulsa also set a new season-high with 24 penalty minutes and the Eagles cashed in on two power play opportunities.
SAVE THAT PUCK
Rookie center Dan DeSalvo scored the first goal of his pro career on Friday night. The 23-year old tied the game at 1-1 with 44 seconds remaining in the first period by firing home a loose puck off an offensive zone face off. DeSalvo, who spent the last four seasons at Bowling Green State University, has a goal and four assists in eight games this season.
A PAIR OF DEBUTS
Center Kyle Bochek made his first appearance of the season on Friday night and defenseman Randy Cure played in his first game as an Oiler. Bochek, who played 82 games for Tulsa over the last two years, started the season on the 21-day injured reserve. Cure, a second-year pro out of Bloomington, Minnesota, played in 30 games last season for the Evansville Icemen and was acquired by the Oilers last week in a trade with the Fort Wayne Komets.
MOVING ON UP
Forward Ben Walker and defenseman Brennan Serville were both recalled by the Manitoba Moose this week. Walker, 22, recorded three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in seven games with Tulsa and Serville, a 2011 draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets, put up a pair of assists and a +2 rating in seven games.
CUT AND DRY, THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE
The Oilers have scored the first goal of the game in each one of their four wins this season and have surrendered the first goal of the game in each one of their four losses this season.
KEEP OUT
Second-year goalie Kevin Carr is 2-1 on the season and ranks third in the ECHL with a 1.34 goals against average. The Unionville, Ontario native has allowed only one goal in his last 120 minutes of action and boasts a .971 save percentage during that span.
OIL DROPS
Jordan Kremyr played in his 200th ECHL game on Friday night...Brandon Wong is just one goal shy of 100 for his career...Each one of the Oilers' games this season has been decided by two goals or fewer...Tulsa has not scored more than three goals in regulation in any game this season...Head Coach Jason Christie needs only five more victories to break the ECHL record for all-time coaching wins.
