San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO - Even if their record may not be indicative of it, the Hamilton Bulldogs are the defending Calder Cup Champions for a reason.

Hamilton used a three-goal third period on their way to a 5-2 decision Friday night over the San Antonio Rampage in front of 8,242 fans, the largest AT&T Center crowd of the season.

With the score knotted a 2-2 heading into the final period, the Rampage - who were previously 5-1-0-0 when tied after two - appeared in good shape to gain the two standings points that accompany a win.

Hamilton came away with the win, however, with third-period markers from Eric Manlow, Kyle Chipchura and Matt D'Agostini to even their record at .500 (17-17-1-5) for the season.

The Rampage battled back after trailing 1-0 through one period.

Enver Lisin tied game with a powerful blast from just inside the blue-line at 7:44 of second frame for his 13th goal of the season. The marker tied him with Bill Thomas for second-most on Rampage. With an assist on the goal, Ryan Caldwell registered his fourth in the past three games.

Hamilton reclaimed the lead about two minutes later on a power-play score. Greg Stewart pushed in a rebound to put his team up 2-1 at 9:44.

The Rampage remained tenacious, with David Spina tying the game again with a score in the slot with 3:15 to go in the second period.

Corey Locke of Hamilton collected three points in the game (1 goal, 2 assists) on the day he was named to the Canadian All-Star Classic roster as a replacement for a teammate. Joey Tenute of the Rampage was also added to the squad, in place of former teammate Joel Perrault, who is currently playing for the NHL parent Phoenix Coyotes.

The loss was the first to a non-West Division opponent all season for the Rampage (5-1-1-0). The Rampage outshot their opponent for an 11th straight time, 32-28, and have done so by 117 during that stretch.

The Rampage will host Toronto in a 5 p.m. Sunday matinee at the AT&T Center. The game will be No. 1,000 of Rampage defenseman Bryan Helmer's career.
