Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, January 18)... The Rochester Americans return to action tonight as they complete their two-game mini series with the Grand Rapids Griffins at Van Andel Arena. Opening faceoff for the North Division matchup is slated for 7:00 p.m. EST and can be heard live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks.

With a win tonight, the Griffins (16-19-2-5, 39 points) can sweep the struggling Amerks and even the season series between the two teams at two games apiece. Grand Rapids currently holds the fourth place standing in the American Hockey League's North Division, 10 points ahead of Rochester.

The Amerks (12-26-2-3, 29 points) enter tonight's contest at the bottom of the Western Conference and 28th in the league. Rochester's .337 winning percentage is second worst in the league after dropping 18 of its last 20 games. Despite suffering a 4-3 shootout loss to Grand Rapids on Wednesday night, Rochester has managed to earn at least one point in its last three games.

Left wing Stefan Meyer netted a pair of goals to lead Rochester in game-one Wednesday night to become the third best point-getter on the Amerks' current roster. Meyer is one goal shy of tying Marek Zagrapan as Rochester's top goal scorer. Mark Mancari provided Rochester's third goal to increase his point lead to 33 on the season (12+21).

Grand Rapids' offense is currently paced by right wing Carl Corazzini with 13 goals and 18 assists for 31 points in 42 games. Goaltender Jimmy Howard has seen a majority of the action between the pipes for the Griffins, posting a 14-14-2 record in 31 appearances. His 2.57 goals-against average and .913 save percentage presently rank him 20th and 17th among all league netminders, respectively.

The Amerks remain on the road as they make their first ever trip to Moline, Illinois to take on the American Hockey League expansion Quad City Flames on Sunday, January 20th at the I Wireless Center. The 6:05 p.m. EST contest will be the first ever meeting and the first of two this season between the two teams.

Rochester will complete its road trip the following night as the Amerks travel to Wells Fargo Arena to battle the Iowa Stars in a non-divisional matchup. Faceoff for the first of two meetings this season is set for 6:05 p.m. EST. The rare Monday evening contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks.
