
Amerks swept by Grand Rapids, lose third straight

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans were swept by the Grand Rapids Griffins tonight, falling 3-1 in the second game of the two-game mini series between the North Division foes. With the loss, Rochester falls to 12-27-2-3 and has now lost 19 of its last 21 contests.
Mark Hartigan paced the Griffins offense with a three-point performance (2+1) to earn first star honors. Jimmy Howard turned away 22 of the Amerks' shots to earn third star honors.
Defenseman Franklin MacDonald registered his first goal as an Amerk this season while Tyler Plante made a season high 38 saves in the losing effort for Rochester.
Hartigan opened the scoring for the Griffins with his first tally of the night at 6:51 of the opening frame. Just under two minutes later, Hartigan struck again with his 19th goal on the year to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead over the visiting Amerks. Carl Corazzini and Kyle Quincey each earned assists on the play.
Grand Rapids increased their lead to 3-0 in the second period as Jamie Tardif tallied his 10th goal of the year with assists from Hartigan and Jakub Kindl.
Rochester finally got on the board as defenseman Franklin MacDonald recorded his first career goal as an Amerk at 19:40 of the final stanza. David Brine and Mike Weber were each credited with assists on the play.
The Amerks remain on the road as they make their first ever trip to Moline, Illinois to take on the American Hockey League expansion Quad City Flames on Sunday, January 20th at the I Wireless Center. The 6:05 p.m. EST contest will be the first ever meeting and the first of two this season between the two teams.
Rochester will complete its road trip the following night as the Amerks travel to Wells Fargo Arena to battle the Iowa Stars in a non-divisional matchup. Faceoff for the first of two meetings this season is set for 6:05 p.m. EST. The rare Monday evening contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks.
