Moose release Melanson from PTO

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, announced they have released forward Mathieu Melanson from his pro tryout contract.

Melanson, 22, made his AHL debut with the Moose on Dec. 29/07 at Syracuse. The Shediac, NB native scored his first AHL goal vs. Lake Erie on New Year's Day and collected four penalty minutes in eight games played with Manitoba. Melanson has also played in 25 games this year with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL where he's scored 19 goals and 15 assists for 34 points and 20 penalty minutes. In 42 career games in the ECHL with Stockton and Florida, he has scored 33 goals and 27 assists for 60 points and 30 penalty minutes. Melanson was a valuable member of the Memorial Cup Champion Quebec Remparts in 2006 when he scored 42 goals and 86 points in 59 games for Head Coach Patrick Roy's squad, and then scored 25 goals and 40 points in 23 post-season games that championship season.
