NORFOLK, VA - Radek Smolenak's first American Hockey League goal was not enough as the Norfolk Admirals (11-27-1-3) lost to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (24-13-0-2) 3-1 on Saturday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The loss was Norfolk's fifth in a row.

After a scoreless opening period, Kurtis McLean deflected a shot from the point past Norfolk netminder Marc Denis glove-side at 2:44 of the second stanza.

Wilkes-Barre's lead doubled nearly ten minutes later. A McLean shot from the right faceoff circle went wide left and caromed off the end boards to the opposite post. Tim Brent collected the carom and stuffed it over Denis's left arm at 12:33 of the second period.

Smolenak gave the Admirals hope late in the final frame. After a faceoff win, Smolenak sent a shot from the top of the right circle through traffic and past Wilkes-Barre netminder David Brown at 16:16.

However, McLean picked up his second goal of the night on the power play with 1:28 remaining to seal the Penguins victory.

Marc Denis (30 shots, 27 saves) got the loss. David Brown (20 shots, 19 saves) got the win.

Norfolk was 0-2 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 1-6.

A five game homestand concludes tomorrow night with a rematch against the Penguins at 7:15.
