Albany River Rats News Release
ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that defenseman Casey Borer has been returned on loan to Albany by the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League. Albany also announced they have signed center Jordan Fox to a professional tryout agreement.
Borer, 22, played in eight games for Carolina since his recall from Albany on January 1st, the first NHL recall of his career. The Minneapolis native made his NHL debut on January 2nd against the Atlanta Thrashers in Raleigh, and earned his first NHL point in his second NHL game, assisting on Eric Staal's goal at Atlanta on January 4th. Later in the same game, he netted his first NHL goal at 16:35 of the second period. Borer totaled one goal, two assists (3 points) and four penalty minutes in eight games, averaging 14:16 in ice time per game. Borer returns to Albany still leading all River Rats defensemen in goals (5), points (14) and power-play goals (4) and he currently leads all Albany skaters in plus/minus (+13). Selected in the third round (69th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Borer is in his first full season of professional hockey after completing a four-year career at St. Cloud State, totaling five goals and 36 assists (41 points) in 148 games with the Huskies.
Fox, 23, returns for his second stint with the River Rats after making his AHL debut with Albany last weekend. The Kirkwood, Missouri native was released from his PTO on Tuesday and returned to the Flint Generals for their game in Fort Wayne on Wednesday night, recording one assist in a 4-2 loss to the Komets. In his first three games for Albany Fox scored his first two career AHL points (1 goal, 1 assist) and had a +2 rating. He played two seasons of Division I college hockey at Merrimack College of Hockey East, along with three years of junior hockey in the USHL and NAHL.
Both Borer and Fox are expected to be in the River Rats lineup as they square off with the Hershey Bears at 7:00 pm Friday night at the Times Union Center. Saturday, January 19th Albany will host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:00 pm.
