Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA - The American Hockey League announced today that Hamilton Bulldogs centreman Corey Locke has been added to the 2008 Canadian AHL All-Star team to replace injured defenceman Ryan O'Byrne. Locke will join Head Coach Don Lever and Assistant Coach Ron Wilson on the Canadian squad for this season's All-Star Classic presented by Reebok on January 27th-28th.
Locke, 23, is scheduled to make his second AHL All-Star appearance, previously skating for the Canadian squad in the 2006 AHL All-Star Classic in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The native of Newmarket, Ontario, leads the Bulldogs in goals (14), assists (18) and points (32), and has a plus-6 rating with 24 penalty minutes in 37 games so far this season. Locke is Hamilton's all-time leading scorer with 189 points (69-120-189) in 272-career AHL games.
The 5-foot-9, 171-pound forward also played in his first-career NHL game this season with the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, January 8th against the Chicago Blackhawks. Locke was scoreless with one shot in 5:59 of ice-time in the game.
Locke was selected by Montreal in the 4th round, 113th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
O'Byrne, who is currently on recall to the Canadiens, fractured his thumb on December 28th, 2007 against the Florida Panthers and will miss the AHL's All-Star game due to his recall and injury.
The 2008 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Reebok will be held on January 27th-28th in Binghamton, New York, home of the Binghamton Senators. Binghamton and Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena will provide a unique stage for the best young hockey players in the world and a terrific setting for guests from across North America.
