Rainiers Drop Finale With Sacramento, 6-2

TACOMA, Wash. - Sacramento's Luke Montz drove in six runs as the River Cats downed the Tacoma Rainiers 6-2 at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday. The loss left Tacoma to settle for a series split in the finale between the two clubs.

Montz put the Rainiers down 2-0 after turning in a two RBI double with two outs in the first inning. The catcher stretched Tacoma's deficit to five runs with a three-run homer in the fifth, and he drove in a final run with a single in the seventh.

The Tacoma lineup was limited to six hits in the contest. Outfielder Stefen Romero went 2-for-4, including a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh. Shortstop Brad Miller stretched his hitting streak to seven games after recording a double and a single.

Starter Andrew Carraway (6-2) was dealt the loss after surrendering five runs on eight hits over 5.0 innings in his 12th start this season. The right-hander struck out one and issued one walk.

The Rainiers (36-24) enjoy a scheduled league day off tomorrow before returning to action at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 6 to begin four-game series against the Las Vegas 51s. Right-hander Blake Beavan (3-2, 4.91) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against 51s right-hander D.J. Mitchell (2-1, 6.61).
