Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-A disputed home run call made the difference on Monday night, as the Reno Aces fell 4-2 to the Tucson Padres in the third game of the series at Aces Ballpark.
The teams were knotted at two entering the seventh, when Cody Decker hit a controversial home run down the left field line with two outs in the frame. Tucson tacked on another run in the eighth for a lead they would not surrender.
Reno had the go-ahead run at the plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Juan Rivera grounded out to end the threat.
Chris Owings extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a solo home run to lead off the fourth. His streak marks the best in professional baseball this season.
The top of the order for Reno-Tony Campana, Taylor Harbin and Owings-combined to go 7-for-14 on the night with two RBI, both from Owings, and two runs scored. Cleanup batter Matt Davidson also added two hits.
RHP Zeke Spruill held Tucson to just six hits through 8.0 innings, but was charged with the loss. He gave up four earned runs, while walking three and striking out two. RHP Warner Madrigal threw a perfect ninth inning of relief for Reno.
Tucson starter Sean O'Sullivan dealt a quality start en route to his fourth win of the season. He gave up two earned runs on nine hits through 6.0 innings, while striking out four.
The series wraps up Tuesday afternoon at Aces Ballpark, as the Aces look to avoid a sweep. RHP Chase Anderson (3-6, 5.66 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Tucson will counter with RHP Brandon Kloess (2-0, 3.28 ERA). First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m.
