Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque (30-28) dropped the third game of their four-game series to Oklahoma City (32-24) 8-4 Monday night at Isotopes Park. Third baseman Elian Herrera did everything he could to keep the Isotopes in the game going 2-for-2 from the plate with two runs scored and three walks.
Three consecutive Oklahoma City singles put the first run of the board. Third baseman Brandon Laird collected the RBI driving in second baseman Jake Elmore. A second run came across on a force out off the bat of designated hitter Fernando Martinez scoring Brett Wallace.
Albuquerque got one back in their half of the first after loading the bases with one out. With second baseman Justin Sellers batting starting pitcher Jarred Cosart threw a wild pitch allowing Herrera to score.
Oklahoma City added two runs in the fourth, following two scoreless frames by both clubs. Che-Hsuan Lin scored the first run on a single by Jonathan Villar and Robbie Grossman grounded into a force out allowing Villar to score for a 4-1 lead.
The Isotopes put up a three spot in the fifth, tying the game at four without the benefit of a hit. Four Isotopes walked in the inning and designated hitter Jeremy Moore picked up an RBI on his free pass. Chili Buss drove in the first run of the inning on a ground out and first baseman Rusty Ryal sent a runner home on a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring.
Martinez hit a go-ahead two-run single in the sixth, scoring Elmore and Brett Wallace to give the RedHawks a 6-4 advantage. Oklahoma City tacked on another in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Elmore and one more in the ninth on a Robbie Grossman sacrifice fly.
Albuquerque starter Angel Castro exited after one inning allowing two runs on three hits. The bullpen went to work from there. Southpaws Geison Aguasviva and Kelvin De La Cruz combined for five-plus innings. Aguasviva shouldered three frames surrendering two runs on five hits.
After Albuquerque tied it, De La Cruz (0-1, 4.43) gave up two runs in the sixth. He went two-plus innings allowing three runs overall. Righty Sean White entered in the seventh and went 1.2 innings allowing an inherited runner to score on one hit and right-hander Josh Wall finished the game firing 1.1 one-run innings on two hits.
Left-handed pitcher Eric Berger (2-1, 3.96) earned the win for Oklahoma City tossing 1.1 scoreless innings. He walked two and struck out two.
The Isotopes and Redbirds close out their four-game series tomorrow, June 4 with the first pitch scheduled for 12:05 PM MDT. Oklahoma City will send righty Philip Humber (0-0, 6.14) to the mound in the finale. Albuquerque has yet to announce a starter.
