
Zephyrs Win in 13th Inning, Extend Win Streak to 4

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Zephyrs offense erupted in the top of the thirteenth inning to score five runs to defeat the Iowa Cubs 10-5 at Principal Park. The win is the Zephyrs season high fourth in a row. The Z's improved to 7-1 in extra innings.
Zach Phillips pitched three innings of relief and earned his third win in four games. The win improves Phillips to 4-0 on the season and he is the team leader in victories.
Bryan Petersen led the Zephyrs offensive attack; the outfielder had five hits in seven at bats and added four RBI.
The Zephyrs jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the game. In the fifth inning the Iowa Cubs took advantage of an error by pitcher Duane Below. The Cubs scored four unearned runs to tie the game. Steve Clevenger ripped a base clearing double to knock Below out of the game and tie the contest.
The game was tied at five from innings five through 12. In the thirteenth inning Kyle Skipworth led the inning off a triple to centerfield. He would score the go ahead run on a Kevin Mattison line drive that deflected off the pitcher with the infield drawn in. Petersen would drive in two more with a single and the Zephyrs would send ten batters to the plate in the inning.
Eduardo Sanchez picked up the blown save for Iowa on Saturday in the Zephyrs come from behind win in 13 innings suffered the loss on Monday. The Cubs have dropped a season high six consecutive.
The Zephyrs will attempt to sweep a team for the first time this season on Tuesday.
Game Notes - The Zephyrs added infielder Nick Green from the Marlins. The Z's assigned Jordan Conley to Class A Jupiter. It was the third transaction in three days for Conley. The Zephyrs lead the PCL with seven extra inning wins. The Zephyrs bullpen has worked 24.2 consecutive scoreless innings.
