Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - After falling behind by as many as three runs, the Round Rock Express (32-26) rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth before dropping in 12 innings to the Nashville Sounds (18-38) Monday night at Dell Diamond.

The night did not begin the way Express starter Scott Richmond had planned as the right-hander allowed a season-high in runs before recording an out. After permitting the first two runners to reach base, right fielder Caleb Gindl launched Richmond's 1-0 offering just over the left field wall for a three-run shot. Richmond had not allowed more than two runs in any of his three starts entering the game.

Round Rock battled back, scoring runs in the bottom of the first and second to cut the lead to one. After center fielder Engel Beltre doubled and moved to third on a passed ball, first baseman Chris McGuiness brought him home on a RBI ground out for the first E-Train run. Another leadoff double in the second led to the second Express run, this time with left fielder Aaron Cunningham smacking a two-bagger to put himself in scoring position. After moving to third on a single by third baseman Mike Olt, Cunningham crossed the plate on a RBI ground out off the bat of right fielder Jim Adduci.

Richmond settled down, blanking the Sounds for five innings until Nashville put two runs on the board in the seventh. Following a leadoff single, center fielder Josh Prince ripped the second home run of the night for Nashville, a two-run shot to left to put the Sounds ahead 5-2.

Once again the Express rallied, plating two in the bottom of the seventh to pull within one. Olt led off with his second single of the night and scored from first on a double to center off the bat of Adduci. After Miclat moved Adduci to third on a sacrifice bunt, the right fielder scored on a sacrifice fly by Beltre to cut the Sounds lead to one at 5-4.

Richmond's night would end after seven innings of work, allowing five runs on seven hits. The Express called on the bullpen to keep the team within striking distance for the final two innings.

Down to its final three outs, the resiliency of the Express once again came to fruition when Adduci connected on a game-tying home run to begin the frame. It was his sixth on the season and just the second game-tying home run for the E-Train in 2013.

Right-hander Lisalverto Bonilla dominated in relief, striking out five of the first six batters he faced over his 3.0 scoreless innings of work.

Designated hitter Joey Butler sparked the offense in the bottom of the 11th, roping a leadoff double to begin the frame. After Olt's third single of the evening, the Sounds walked Adduci to load the bases with no outs. With a fifth infielder and a drawn in infield, second baseman Greg Miclat grounded into a double play, forcing Butler out at the plate but leaving runners on second and third. Nashville again walked a batter to load the bases, giving Beltre a free pass to bring catcher Robinson Chirinos to the dish. Unfortunately, he was unable to collect his first hit of the night, fouling out to first base as the E-Train squandered a golden opportunity.

The Sounds threatened in the 12th, putting runners on first and second with one out on Express reliever Nate Robertson. Third baseman Stephen Parker broke the 5-5 draw with a double to left-center, plating a run to give Nashville a 6-5 lead. A sacrifice fly gave the Sounds an insurance run as the E-Train entered the bottom of the 12th trailing, 7-5.

The Express offense went quietly for the final three outs as Nashville picked up its first victory of the series and snapped a two-game losing streak. Robertson (1-2) suffered the loss while right-hander Kyle Heckathorn (2-1) earned the victory after 2.0 scoreless innings in relief.

The Express concludes a four-game homestand with the series finale against Nashville Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Ryan Feierabend (2-1, 4.08 ERA) will take the ball for the E-Train while Nashville will send left-hander Chris Narveson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to the hill. Tuesday night will also be Turn Back Tuesday at Dell Diamond as the Express will wear their 1959 Austin Senators jersey and all tickets will be half-price.
