Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres won their fourth-straight game Monday after defeating the Reno Aces 4-2 at Aces Ballpark. The Padres have won seven of their last eight games and now sit a half game out of first place in the Southern Division.
Aces starting pitcher Zeke Spruill retired the first ten Tucson hitters until Dean Anna hit a solo home run into the Padres bullpen with one out in the top of the fourth. Tucson tacked on one more run in the inning on Rene Rivera's RBI double. Chris Owings led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run for Reno, extending his minor league-best hitting streak to 22 games.
Owings struck again in the fifth with an RBI single to tie the game at two. Cody Decker untied the game in the seventh with a contested, two-out, solo home run that Reno's coaching staff argued traveled foul in front of the left-field pole. It was Decker's third home run in the last eight games.
Reno had two runners on with no outs in the bottom of the seventh when Padres reliever Nick Vincent came in and recorded three outs, including two on strikeouts. Rivera drove in his second RBI of the game in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to center, giving Tucson a two-run advantage. Miles Mikolas saved his ninth game of the season to seal the victory for the Padres.
Sean O'Sullivan (4-3) earned the win after pitching six innings and allowing two runs on nine hits. Spruill (1-3) was given the loss after yielding four runs on six hits in eight innings of work.
Next Game: Tuesday, 12:05 pm at Reno (Diamondbacks affiliate) - Tucson RHP Brandon Kloess (2-0, 3.28) vs. Reno RHP Chase Anderson (3-6, 5.66). Game coverage begins at 11:55 am on 1290 AM The Source and tucsonpadres.com.
