Isotopes Extra Tough in 10-2 Victory

Albuquerque, N.M. - The Albuquerque Isotopes set a season high with eight extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs by Matt Angle in a 10-2 win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks before 4,585 at Isotopes Park Tuesday afternoon.

The RedHawks and Isotopes split their four-game series, as well as the eight games the two teams played in Albuquerque this season.

With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Angle connected on a solo home run out to right-center field to put the Isotopes in front.

The Isotopes (32-25) struck for another pair of runs in the fourth inning after having the bases empty with two outs. Brian Barden hit an RBI double to center field, and a throwing error by Che-Husan Lin brought home another run to make it 3-0.

Brandon Laird ripped an RBI double with two outs in the fifth inning, cutting Albuquerque's lead to 3-1. However, a two-out error by RedHawks second baseman Andy Simunic in the bottom of the inning led to a run for the Isotopes to push the lead to 4-1.

The RedHawks (31-28) cut the lead back to two in the sixth. Simunic singled and stole second base with two outs, and Cody Clark followed with an RBI single.

Albuquerque was able to break the game open with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Dee Gordon hit a two-run triple, followed by a sac fly in by Elian Herrera.

After another two-out error kept the inning alive, Chili Buss hit a two-run double to widen the gap to 9-2.

Angle led off the bottom of the eighth inning, and on the first pitch, he hit his second home run of the game to get the Isotopes into double digits.

Although the RedHawks outhit the Isotopes, 11-9, eight of Albuquerque's hits went for extra bases, setting a season high for both the Isotopes as well as a RedHawks opponent.

Laird's double was the only extra-base hit for the RedHawks, who left 12 runners on base, one game after stranding 13.

Isotopes relief pitcher Anthony Ortega ended up with the win, his second of the season against Oklahoma City. Ortega (3-3) allowed one run and two hits over 1.1 innings.

Making his second start for the RedHawks, Philip Humber took the loss. Humber (0-1) ran into some tough luck and pitched better than the line indicated, allowing four runs (two earned) and five hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out two and walked one.
