RailRiders Lose, 9-4, to the Syracuse Mets

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell 9-4 to the Syracuse Mets on Wednesday Night. Despite home runs from Elijah Dunham and Andres Chaparro, SWB couldn't match the Mets offense.

Danny Mendick opened the contest with a lead-off homer to center field.

The RailRiders got on the board quickly after. Estevan Florial took a walk to start the bottom half. Dunham smacked his first home run of the season to put his team ahead 2-1.

In the second, Khalil Lee reached on a hit by pitch and Jonathan Arauz doubled him home to tie things up.

Ronny Mauricio put Syracuse back on top with his two RBI single plating Mark Vientos and DJ Stewart for a 4-2 lead.

Chaparro brought the score to 4-3 with his fourth hit of the season, his fourth home run.

The Mets added to it in the next frame as they ran through the order. Arauz doubled and came home on Mendick's base knock. A walk allowed Brett Baty to reach and Vientos launched a home run to add another three runs. Syracuse had a 8-3 advantage.

In the top of the ninth, Mendick's RBI single let Lee cross the plate to add an insurance run for the Mets.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre put up a fight in the bottom half. Michael Hermosillo reached second on an error. Oswald Peraza sent a single up the middle and another miscue allowed Hermosillo to score. SWB dropped 9-4.

Randy Vasquez (L, 0-1) took the first three and a third innings allowing eight runs, six earned on seven hits. He struck out six. Vasquez handed the ball over to Barrett Loseke with a runner on in the fourth. Loseke allowed a hit but got out of the frame clean. He tossed a quiet fifth. Deivi Garcia took over for the next three putting up zeros on three walks and three strikeouts. Matt Bowman allowed a run in the ninth on one hit and a pair of walks.

Tony Dibrell got the start letting up three runs on three hits in four innings. Edwin Uceta (W, 1-0) pitched a clean frame. Zach Muckenhirn threw three of his own giving up just one hit. Grant Hartwig allowed an unearned run in the ninth, striking out two.

The RailRiders take on the Mets tomorrow at PNC Field. Ryan Weber gets the ball for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre against Joey Lucchesi with a 6:35 P.M. first pitch.
