Predators Acquire Defenseman

Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Alexander Ryazantsev (ree-ZAHNT-sehv) from the Colorado Avalanche for a seventh-round selection in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-0, 210-pound blueliner has been assigned to the Milwaukee Admirals.

Ryazantsev, 22 (3/15/80), has posted five goals and 10 assists (15 points) in 57 games this season with Colorado's primary developmental affiliate, the Hershey Bears. In 203 professional games, the Moscow, Russia native has earned 63 points (15g-48a) and accumulated 121 PIMs.

The third-year pro earned Hershey's most improved player award in 2002 after establishing personal bests in assists (19) and points (24). Named the top defenseman at the 2000 World Junior Championships, Ryazantsev was originally Colorado's 10th choice (167th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

The Admirals take on the Manitoba Moose in Winnipeg tonight and Wednesday night before returning to the Bradley Center to play the Philadelphia Phantoms at 7:12 Friday night. Catch all the exciting road action with Brian Manthey on JOY 1340 am.
