Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Tuesday released defenseman Ryan Knox and signed defenseman Aaron Schneekloth (SHNEE-cloth) to a professional tryout.

Schneekloth, 24, has totaled 27 points (6-21-27) and 34 penalty minutes in 37 games this season for the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League. He and Griffins forward Tim Skarperud were teammates for three seasons (1999-02) at the University of North Dakota, where they helped lead the Fighting Sioux to the 2000 NCAA championship. Schneekloth, who attended training camp with the AHL's Worcester IceCats in September, has played in 46 contests with South Carolina since turning pro last spring, posting 33 points (7-26-33) and 42 penalty minutes.

Knox recorded three points (2-1-3) and four penalty minutes in nine games after signing with Grand Rapids on Feb. 11. He returns to the ECHL's Pee Dee Pride, where he amassed 20 points (6-14-20) in 39 games. Schneekloth will be available to the Griffins tomorrow when they continue their seven-game road trip with a 9:00 p.m. start against the Utah Grizzlies at The E Center.
