Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins saw their season-high six-game unbeaten streak (4-0-2-0) come to an end on Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, as they fell 4-3 in overtime to the Manchester Monarchs. The Black and Gold had fallen behind 3-0, but rallied back to tie the game with two third period goals. The winning goal was scored with just 5.6 seconds remaining in overtime, as the Bruins suffered their first overtime loss of the season (2-1-10). The Bruins are now 20-12-10-1 (51 points) on the season, in second place in the Atlantic Division, five points behind division-leading Hartford.
Bruin forward Brendan Walsh started his team's comeback with his seventh goal of the season, at 9:01 of the second period. The goal was Walsh's fifth in his last six games. He now has AHL career-high 7-1-8 totals in 27 games.
Providence left wing Ivan Huml brought the Bruins to within one on his 10th goal of the season at 6:47 of the third period. He also had two assists in the game. Center Andre Savage, who also had an assist, tied the game with his 10th goal of the season at 13:10 of the third period. Savage now has 64-91-155 totals in 164 career games with the P-Bruins, moving him to within four points of tying former Bruin Cameron Mann for third all-time in franchise scoring.
Goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 34 shots in the loss. His record is now 9-6-4.
The Bruins begin a home-and-home series with the Worcester IceCats on Saturday night in Worcester at 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550. The teams return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m.
