Bears fall to Penguins, 4-2, Remain in Second Place

Despite scoring two power play goals, the HERSHEY BEARS fall to rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-2 at Wachovia Arena. Steve Brule and Shane Willis provided the special teams scoring for the BEARS while Peter Budaj made 26 saves, taking the loss for HERSHEY. The BEARS (22-16-8-3 = 55 pts) remain in second place, tied with Philadelphia (25-14-4-1 = 55 pts), one point behind the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (24-11-5-3 = 56 pts). Bridgeport has played six fewer games than HERSHEY, while Philadelphia has played five fewer games.

The Penguins would open the scoring at 6:40 of the first period with a power play goal by Colby Armstrong. Steve Brule would tie the game with his 16th goal of the season. Eric Perrin and Dean Arsene would assist on Brule's goal. For Arsene, it was his first AHL point with the BEARS. The score would remain tied going into the first intermission.

Wilkes/Barre would do all of the scoring in the second period with an even-strength goal by Michel Ouellet and a Reid Simpson power play goal. The Penguins would lead 3-1 after two periods.

Shane Willis would pull the BEARS to within one, 3-2, with a man-up goal at 6:34 of the third period while David Koci sat in the box serving a five minute major penalty for fighting. Perrin would get his team-leading 47th point of the season with the assist. Brett Clark would also assist on the Willis goal. Steve Webb would put the Penguins ahead by two goals at 11:20 of the third period. HERSHEY would come no closer, heading down I-81 without a point, only a 4-2 loss.

The BEARS returning home to GIANT Center Saturday, aim to break a seven game winless streak against the Philadelphia Phantoms. Dennis Bonvie will make his HERSHEY debut. The game will be broadcast on ABC 27 with Gregg Mace and John Walton. The game will also be simulcast on BIG 92.7 FM, the flagship station for the HERSHEY BEARS. Pre-game on BIG 92.7 will begin at 6:40 pm. ABC 27 will begin airing the game at 7:00 pm.
