Manchester Monarchs News Release

PROVIDENCE, RI – Michael Cammalleri's goal with just six seconds remaining on the overtime clock gave the Manchester Monarchs a thrilling, 4-3 overtime win over the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night. Cammalleri's third game-winning goal this season silenced the crowd of 10, 365 and pushed the Monarchs to their fourth win in six tries against the Bruins this season. Cammalleri snapped his sixth goal this season past Bruins goaltender Hannu Toivonen from the bottom of the right circle. The goal followed a breakaway as defenseman Maxim Kuznetsov hit Cammalleri in stride up the right wing.

The win was the second straight for the Monarchs (22-17-2-3, 49 points), who solidified their hold on third place in the Atlantic Division. The overtime loss put an end to the Bruins six-game unbeaten streak.

The Monarchs had Toivonen feeling the pressure early. They blitzed the rookie netminder with the first nine shots of the game. Center Steve Kelly's redirect of defenseman Doug Nolan's slap shot from the left point at 5:18 produced the first of two Monarchs scores in the period. Right wing Pavel Rosa also assisted on Kelly's 13th goal this season.

Left wing Jeff Giuliano increased the Monarchs lead to 2-0 with his fifth goal, scored with an assist from Rosa at 10:56. The assist was Rosa's 66th as a Monarch, moving him into second place on the Monarchs all-time list.

The Monarchs finished with a 17-3 shots on goal advantage after one period of play, with the Bruins only scoring chance coming late in the period. Left wing Andy Hilbert jumped on a rebound in the slot and pushed the puck just wide of goaltender Adam Hauser and the left post with 2:30 remaining in the period.

The Monarchs wasted no time adding to their lead, with rookie left wing Noah Clarke scoring just 44 seconds into the middle period. Center Jerred Smithson and defenseman Joe Rullier each collected assists on Clarke's 12th goal this season, scored when he wheeled around from behind the Bruins net and roofed it over the glove of Toivonen.

Right wing Brendan Walsh, who earlier in the period was assessed a double minor for roughing and elbowing, put the Bruins on the board with his blast from the top of the right circle at 9:01. Left wing Ivan Huml and center Matt Herr shared assists on Walsh's fifth goal in six games. Walsh has seven total goals this season.

Huml pulled the Bruins to within one with his 10th goal, scored on a wrap-around with 6:47 elapsed off the third period clock. Hauser lost sight of the puck and Huml took advantage, reversing his direction before slicing his shot into the net.

The 10th goal this season from center Andre Savage completed the Providence three-goal comeback with 6:50 remaining in regulation play. Savage tied the game by pouncing on a loose puck and lifting it over the right shoulder of Hauser. Huml and defenseman Milan Jurcina assisted.

Hauser, however, bounced back and finished strongly with game-saving stops on Walsh with 1:30 left in regulation and Hilbert 33 seconds into the overtime session. The win for Hauser was his 10th this season. He finished with 14 saves. Toivonen took the loss despite 35 saves.

NOTE: The Los Angeles Kings on Friday assigned defenseman Tim Gleason to the Monarchs. Gleason, 20, has appeared in 29 games this season with the Kings and has two points (both assists) and 19 penalty minutes. In nine games with the Monarchs this season, the 6-foot-1, 214-pound Gleason has three points (0-3=3) and two penalty minutes. Gleason is expected to join the Monarchs for their game against the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday night.

The Monarchs continue their three-game weekend road series against the Wolf Pack at 7:05 p.m. at the Hartford Civic Center on Saturday night. Saturday night's game will be broadcast regionally throughout New England on the Comcast Network (CN8). Join play-by-play man Mick Moninghoff for tomorrow's TV broadcast, starting at 7:00 p.m. Saturday's game, like all Monarchs games, will also be broadcast on the Monarchs Radio Network (610 WGIR, 930 WGIN, 1540 WGIP, 1400 WTSL) with play-by-play man Ken Cail.
