LOOKING AHEAD:

Philadelphia looks to close the gap in the East Division with two important four-point games against Bridgeport on Friday (7:05 ET) and in Hershey on Saturday (7:00 ET). The Sound Tigers have dropped four in a row and have seen their lead atop the division shrink with the Bears and Phantoms in hot pursuit. Philadelphia goalie Antero Niittymaki has won five straight starts, helping the club to a 6-1-0 record in its last seven outings. Bridgeport's 0-3-0-1 skid matches the longest losing slide in the club's three-year history, and the Bears continue to struggle against the Phantoms, going 0-6-0-1 against their arch rivals this season.

Third-place Manchester plays three important division games this weekend, at second-place Providence on Friday (7:05 ET) and at Atlantic-leading Hartford on Saturday (7:05 ET) and Sunday (4:05). The Monarchs, who were shut out in consecutive games before posting a 6-0 win over Portland last Saturday, have won just five road games this season (5-11-1-1), tied for the fewest in the AHL. Adam Hauser has gotten the call in net in each of Manchester's first five games against the Bruins this season, and has stopped 132 of 138 shots (.957) while posting two shutouts.

The final two games of the NHL/AHL experiment with wider blue and center red lines take place this weekend in Winnipeg where Manitoba hosts Toronto on Friday (7:30 CT, 8:30 ET) and Saturday (2:30/3:30). Both clubs are currently on the outside looking in at the North Division playoff picture: the Moose, back home after an eight-game road trip, have stumbled in their last 15 games (3-7-4-1), while the Roadrunners rank last in the league allowing 3.14 goals per game. Nate DiCasmirro has a goal in four straight for Toronto, including the winner in last weekend's 7-6 overtime decision in Syracuse.

The highest scoring team in the AHL? None other than Claude Noel's Milwaukee Admirals, the only team in the league averaging more than three goals a game this season. The Ads host San Antonio on Saturday (7:30 CT) before a home date Sunday (3:00 CT, 4:00 ET) with Grand Rapids, which enters the weekend on an eight-game unbeaten streak. Veteran Tony Hrkac has a point in eight straight for Milwaukee (7g, 7a).
