Ari Ahonen stopped 29 shots and Ray Giroux scored once and set up two other markers as the Albany River Rats defeated the Binghamton Senators 3-0 Friday night in front of 3, 057 fans at Pepsi Arena.

Giroux opened the scoring with a power play goal at 9:12 of the first period, blasting a drive over the glove hand of Billy Thompson (26 saves) on feeds from Adrian Foster and Jiri Bicek.

The Rats added an even strength goal at 15:50 of the middle period when Ryan Murphy was unchecked in front of Thompson and stuffed his own rebound past the helpless goaltender for a 2-0 lead.

Joe Hulbig completed the scoring when sent a Craig Darby rebound home at 4:45 of the third period for his 12th goal of the year.

The Sens are next in action Saturday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena when they host the Rochester Americans in a 7:05 p.m. faceoff.
