Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, were defeated by the Lowell Devils 4-2 Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center with the Devils' three-goal second period providing the difference The P-Bruins got goals from rookie wingers T.J. Trevelyan and Chris Collins.

Trevelyan got Providence on the board first, 13:37 into the opening period, by taking advantage of traffic in front of Lowell goalie Frank Doyle's net, poking one past the netminder for his fourth goal in only seven AHL games since his call-up from the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the ECHL. Assists went to fellow forwards Ben Walter and Martins Karsums.

The P-Bruins held their 1-0 lead until nearly the midway point of the game, when the Devils responded with three goals, first by winger Grant Marshall, his third of the year, and then a pair by defenseman Andy Greene, his first two of the season. Greene's first goal came just over one minute after Marshall tied the game at one and his second goal was less than four minutes after his first, this time on the power-play, the lone man-advantage goal of the game. Justin Papineau, Jim Fahey, Barry Tallackson, Ryan Murphy, Nicklas Bergfors and Patrick Davis all racked up assists.

Providence trailed 3-1 entering the third but Collins, an ECHL call-up with Trevelyan, pulled the P-Bruins within one with his first career AHL goal with just over nine minutes remaining in the game. Pascal Pelletier and Matt Lashoff each had the helpers.

The P-Bruins pulled goalie Philippe Sauve with a minute left for an extra-attacked but Providence allowed an empty-net goal to Murphy, sealing the game. David Clarkson and Petr Vrana provided the assists with seconds left on the clock.

In net, Sauve made 19 saves to Doyle's 33 as Providence out-shot Lowell 35-23. Each team had five power-play opportunities.

The loss snapped a five-game home points-streak for Providence and dropped them to a second-place tie in the Atlantic Division with the Devils, two points behind the Portland Pirates, who beat the Manchester Monarchs 3-1 in Maine.

The P-Bruins stay home in a rare weekend of consecutive home games, hosting the Albany River Rats Saturday night at The Dunk at 7:05 p.m. The contest wraps up the four-game season series, in which Providence is 1-1-1. Then, on Sunday, December 17, the P-Bruins visit the Devils again, this time in Lowell at 4:05 p.m. at the Tsongas Arena.
