Hershey Bears News Release

Trailing by a goal less than two minutes into the game, the BEARS fought back to claim a 3-1 victory Friday night in south Philadelphia. The win was HERSHEY'S 18th of the year.

Philadelphia would strike early to take a 1-0 lead before fans barely had a chance to get comfortable. Tony Voce scored his fifth goal of the season off a rebound of a Mark Cullen shot at 1:54 of the first. Tristan Grant also recorded an assist on the goal. The Phantoms outshot the BEARS 11-10 in the first period, and took a 1-0 lead to intermission.

In the second period, the BEARS would rally to tie the game. Dave Steckel forced a puck through Philadelphia goaltender Martin Houle that just crept past the goal line. With assists given to Chris Bourque and Quintin Laing, HERSHEY tied the game at 1-1, a score that lasted into the third period.

Early in the third, and with the BEARS on a power play, Alexandre Giroux scored his 21st goal of the season at 1:22 to give the BEARS the lead for good. The power play marker was assisted by Joey Tenute and Jonas Johansson, and HERSHEY led 2-1. Philadelphia would battle for scoring chances for the remainder of regulation, but Daigneault held the Phantoms at bay Tomas Fleischmann would score an empty-net goal from his own end of the ice to finish off Philadelphia, his 10th goal of the season. With the win, Daigneault improves his season record to 6-0-1.

Notes: Boyd Kane played against HERSHEY for the first time since captaining the BEARS to the 2006 Calder Cup championship. Trevor Byrne returned from injury and played in the game after a 16-game absence. Tenute also returned to the game after a six-game stint due to injury. The win was HERSHEY'S fourth consecutive victory, and gave the BEARS 42 points, the top mark in the AHL. The BEARS are now 9-1-1-1 this season when allowing more shots to the opposition than they take. The three regulation losses the BEARS have suffered are the fewest in the league.
