Abbotsford Heat News Release

The Chicago Wolves rode a six-goal second period to a 9-1 drubbing of the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights at Allstate Arena on Friday night. It was the worst lost in Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' history and their third setback in a row against the West Division-leading Wolves.

The Knights got into penalty trouble late in the first period, and the Wolves took advantage. With two Knights in the penalty box, Darren Haydar set up Corey Larose for a one timer that beat Curtis McElhinney just inside the far post.

The Wolves blew the game open in the second period. Jared Ross scored a powerplay goal at 3:43. Just 57 seconds later, Brett Sterling scored his AHL-leading 24th goal of the year to make it 3-0. It took 35 more seconds for that lead to grow to 4-0. Alex Bourret scored his sixth of the year at 5:15. That goal spelled the end of the night for McElhinney who stopped eight of twelve shots.

Carsen Germyn finally got the Knights on the board when he slipped his seventh goal of the season past Fred Brathwaite to make it 4-1. Dustin Boyd and Brett Palin assisted.

But the Wolves poured it on with more powerplay chances. Larose scored his second five-on-three goal at 13:31. Nathan Oystrick completed the man advantage stretch, wiring a shot past Brent Krahn during the five-on-four. Sterling added his second of the night in the final minute of the period to leave the Knights down 7-1.

The Wolves added two goals in the third as Derek MacKenzie and Kevin Doell tallied for the 9-1 final score.

Three Stars 1. Corey Larose (CHI) - 2 goals, 3 assists; 2. Brett Sterling (CHI) - 2 goals, 1 assist; 3. Fred Brathwaite (CHI) - 18 saves
