Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have donated $1,000 scholarships to Derry Village Elementary School in Derry for their "Kids Get Movin'" program and to Memorial School in Bedford to purchase a new eMac computer with iLife software, as part of their Investing In Our Youth grant program, the team announced on Monday.
Through the program, the Monarchs Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Monarchs, is able to award two different $1,000 scholarships each month. One of the scholarships goes to a deserving youth sports team. The other scholarship goes to a deserving school organization.
The Monarchs are currently taking applications for the program. Athletic and educational organizations are encouraged to apply. For an Investing In Our Youth grant application, visit www.monarchshockey.com and click on "In The Community" or contact Cheryl Abbott, the Monarchs Vice President of Public Affairs at (603) 626-7825, extension 6102.
The Derry Village Elementary School will use the grant to cover the cost of new equipment for their "Kids Get Movin'" program which provides after school activities to students ages six-to-12 at no charge. They would like to start a track team, as well as purchase basketballs, baseballs and other equipment so that they can offer activities that all of the children can participate in.
Memorial School will purchase an eMac computer, complete with iLife software, to expand their Digital Storytelling program. Fifth grade students will be able to use this program to create digital stories using their own writing, original music and artwork.
The Monarchs hit the road to face the Portland Pirates at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Friday, December 15 at 7:05 p.m. Catch all of the play-by-play action of Monarchs hockey with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network WGIR-AM 610 and at www.monarchshockey.com.
