Albany Devils News Release

Providence, MA - Andy Greene scored the first two goals of his professional career to help lead the Lowell Devils (14-11-2-1) to a 4-2 victory over the Providence Bruins (14-9-1-2) at the Dunkin Donuts Center Friday night. The win puts the Devils temporarily in a first place tie with Providence and the Portland ! Pirates, who were still in action against the Manchester Monarchs by game's end.

Providence jumped out to the 1-0 lead by scoring the only goal of the opening period. T.J. Trevelyn made it 1-0 at 13:37 with his fourth of the season. Philippe Sauve got the start in net for the Bruins, and faced nine Devils shots in the first. Sauve's father, Bob, played two seasons from 1987-89 with the New Jersey Devils. Meanwhile Frank Doyle stopped 10 of 11 first period Bruins shots.

The game changed dramatically in the second period with nine penalties, including a fight between the Devils David Clarkson and Jeremy Reich of the Bruins. Lowell lit the lamp three times to take control of the game. Grant Marshall tied it at 9:14. Just 1:15 later, rookie defenseman Andy Greene gave the Devils the lead with his first career goal. Less than four minutes later Greene added his second of the night, beating Sauve to the glove side and making it 3-1 Devils after 40 minutes of play.

Providence pulled within one in the third period, as Boston College product Chris Collins recorded his first career goal at 10:33 to make it 3-2. Doyle fought off a lopsided attack by the Bruins in the third, as the Devils were outshot 16-3. Lowell put Providence on a pair of third period power plays as well, but killed them off. The Bruins pulled Sauve at the end to push for the equalizer, but Ryan Murphy pocketed t! he empty netter to seal the win.

The Devils play tomorrow night on the road against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and return home to host the Providence Bruins on Sunday, December 17th at 4:05 p.m. One lucky fan that night will win a trip for two to see the New Jersey Devils host the Boston Bruins in April, including an overnight stay in New Jersey at the Courtyard Marriott and round-trip limo service, courtesy of Corporate Coach & Limousine.
