Hershey Bears News Release

Looking to keep the club's first place standing in the East Division race, the BEARS travel to south Philadelphia tonight to take on the Phantoms. Entering play Friday night, HERSHEY is still the only team in the league that has amassed 40 points in the American Hockey League this season.

Tonight's game is the third meeting of 12 between the two clubs. Although the BEARS have the fewest regulation losses of any team in the AHL (three), one of those came at the hands of the Phantoms. HERSHEY defeated Philadelphia 4-1 on October 29 at the Wachovia Center, but lost 4-1 to Philly at GIANT Center on November 5. The November 5 loss stands as the only regulation defeat the BEARS have suffered at GIANT Center this season. Philadelphia begins play Friday having lost three straight games and eight of its last ten.

The BEARS made three separate player moves this week in preparation for Friday's game. Defenseman Marc Busenburg was reassigned to South Carolina (ECHL) on Monday, defenseman Deryk Engelland was recalled from Reading (ECHL) Monday, while center Matt Koalska was recalled to the NHL's New York Islanders on Wednesday. Goaltender Frederic Cassivi, who can eclipse former BEARS goaltender J.F. Labbe on the AHL's all-time wins list with one more victory, is expected to draw the start tonight for HERSHEY at the Wachovia Spectrum.

HERSHEY begins the night just one point ahead of second place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and three points ahead of third place Norfolk in the league's most competitive division. Philadelphia is in seventh place in the East as play starts Friday, trailing fourth place Albany by nine points.

Tonight's game can be heard in central Pennsylvania through the BEARS Radio Network. WQIC-FM in Lebanon (100.1), WLPA-AM in Lancaster (1490) and WHYL-AM in Carlisle (960) have the call of the game beginning with the pre-game show at 6:40 p.m. The game can also be accessed through Pennlive.com and WHYLRadio.com. B2 Networks through HersheyBears.com provides a video feed of the game as well. John Walton has the call from Philadelphia Friday.
