PHILADELPHIA - Maxime Daigneault stopped 37 shots, including a third-period breakaway, and the Hershey Bears scored a shorthanded goal, an even-strength goal and an empty-netter in a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms before 7,176 at the Wachovia Spectrum.

Things started out well for the Phantoms, with Tony Voce securing the game's first goal just 1:54 into the contest. Mark Cullen scooped the puck out in front, where Voce was waiting to fire it home.

That lead stood until the second period, but was erased when Dave Steckel nudged a puck that just barely slid past Martin Houle and over the goal line at 4:34.

Hershey was operating on a power play 1:22 into the final period when Alexandre Giroux picked up the game-winner. Giroux was alone on the right side post when he took a pass from Joey Tenute from the left side and buried it to make the score 2-1. Then, with 30 seconds remaining and the Phantoms up 6-on-4 with a power play and an empty net, Fleischmann cleared the puck off the boards and watched it slide nearly 150 feet directly into the empty Phantoms goal.

Houle earned third star honors despite taking the loss with 27 saves on 29 of Hershey's 30 shots. Philadelphia fired 38 shots at Daigneault, its highest single-game total since Nov. 11, but Daigneault turned aside 37 of them to earn the win.

The Phantoms head to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to visit the Penguins tomorrow night in a 7:00 start. Philadelphia returns home on Sunday, December 17 to host the Toronto Marlies in a 5:05 start at the Wachovia Spectrum. The first 4,000 fans 14 and under will receive a free set of Phantoms trading cards courtesy of Pepsi. Individual tickets for all Phantoms games, including $8 tickets for children 14 and under anywhere in the building, are on sale now at phantomshockey.com or by calling 800-298-4200.
