Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that the rehab assignment of outfielder Greg Allen has been transferred from Single-A Bradenton to Indianapolis ahead of tonight's series opener at Columbus. He is the 13th big leaguer to rehab with the Indians this season, following infielders Josh VanMeter, Yoshi Tsutsugo and Kevin Newman, outfielders Anthony Alford, Ben Gamel and Jake Marisnick, and pitchers Heath Hembree, Sam Howard, Max Kranick, Dillon Peters, Duane Underwood Jr. and Nick Mears.
Allen, 29, began the season on the 60-day injured list with a left hamstring injury suffered during spring training. In nine spring games, the outfielder hit .294 (5-for-17) with two home runs, four RBI and seven runs scored. He went 3-for-9 in his first three rehab games with Bradenton.
During his Triple-A career, Allen appeared in 18 games with Columbus against Indianapolis and hit .333 (22-for-66) with seven doubles and 13 runs scored. Ten of those games came at Victory Field from 2018- 19, and he recorded a five-hit game at Huntington Park against Indy on June 29, 2018.
The San Diego native was originally selected by Cleveland in the sixth round (188th overall) of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of San Diego State University and made his major league debut on Sept. 1, 2017. He was claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh from New York (AL) on Nov. 5, 2021.
Indianapolis' MLB rehab assignments are presented by Franciscan Health.
