
'Pigs drop opener in Charlotte

(Allentown, PA) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (45-40) lost to the Charlotte Knights (32-53) by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday evening. Former IronPigs outfielder Adam Haseley hit a three-run home run against Jonathan Hennigan (3-2) in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for the game.
Haseley's three-run home run was his tenth of the season. Lehigh Valley was able to answer back in the top of the second inning against Kyle Kubat as Ali Castillo hit an RBI double that would score Scott Kingery. The Knights extended their lead to 4-1 against Jeff Singer in the bottom of the third inning as Yasmani Grandal scored on a double-play groundball.
Chris Sharpe hit an RBI double against Kubat that would score Castillo in the top of the fourth inning to cut Charlotte's lead to 4-2. The Knights took a 5-2 lead against Ofreidy Gomez in the bottom of the sixth inning as Lenyn Sosa scored on a double-play groundball.
JoJo Romero pitched a scoreless inning of relief in a Good Shepherd Rehabilitation appearance.
Lincoln Henzman (2-1) earned the win for Charlotte as he pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Kubat. Former IronPigs pitcher Yacksel Rios earned his third save of the season against his former team by pitching a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
The IronPigs and Charlotte Knights continue their series on Wednesday evening at Truist Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:04 p.m.
