Buffalo Bisons News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Travelling to Des Moines for the first time since 1997, the Buffalo Bisons dropped the series opener to the Iowa Cubs 8-2 on Tuesday night from Principal Park.

Andrew Moore got the start for the Herd and rebounded nicely from his previous outing that saw him give up five home runs to Syracuse. Moore threw three innings of one-run ball while allowing two hits and no walks in what was his longest outing as a Bison.

The lone run given up by Moore was a solo homer by Jared Young in the second, while Nick Allgeyer, who took over for Moore, gave up a solo shot to the rehabbing Frank Schwindel over his three innings of work.

Luke Farrell started for Iowa and went five solid innings giving up just one run off an RBI double by Cullen Large in the second. The Bisons did have many other chances to score off Farrell, though, but failed to cash in: L.J. Talley was thrown out at home trying to tag on a fly ball to right, before the Herd stranded Talley at third after he led off the next inning with a triple.

The Bisons would eventually tie the game in the seventh, when Chavez Young, who led off the inning with a double, came around to score off an RBI fielder's choice by Logan Warmoth.

Iowa came close to retaking the lead in the bottom half, but Otto López threw out Young at the plate to keep the game tied. It wouldn't stay tied for long, however, as Dixon Machado came through with a two-run single off Mike Ellenbest to make it 4-2 Iowa.

John Hicks, Levi Jordan, and Machado would combine to drive in four more runs in the eighth to blow it open and take a six-run lead heading into the ninth, where Erich Uelman wrapped things up in order.

The Bisons and I-Cubs will meet again tomorrow night, with Casey Lawrence set to face off against Cam Sanders. First pitch is set for 7:38 p.m. EST.
