RED WINGS NOTES

#1 FOR A REASON: RHP Cade Cavalli went 3.2 innings, scattering just two hits, giving up an unearned run...the Nationals' top prospect has not allowed an earned run in back-to-back starts (10.2 consecutive innings)...the righty struck out six of the 14 batters he faced in tonight's contest.

THE ALU DEBUT: 3B Jake Alu hit an RBI-double to give Rochester the lead in his first Triple-A plate appearance of his career...the 25-year-old came into tonight's game leading the Nationals organization in doubles with 25.

DAD STRENGTH: CF Andrew Stevenson hit a three-run blast to right field in the bottom of the second to give Rochester a 4-0 lead...the home run was Stevenson's first since becoming a dad, his last coming on June 23 (vs SYR, 10 games between HRs)...the former LSU Tiger now has seven long-balls this year, five of which have come at Frontier Field.

THE FOUR HORSEMEN: RHP Curtis Taylor, LHP Francisco Perez, LHP Alberto Baldonado, and RHP Tyler Clippard combined to go 5.1 innings, striking out eight and allowing just one earned run...Baldonado and Clippard recorded the last six outs, striking out the side in the eighth and ninth, respectively...Clippard earned his first save of the year in the win with his last coming on June 15, 2009 (39 Triple-A appearances between saves)...the veteran has 74 career saves in the Big Leagues.

STORM CHASERS NOTES

SPLASH: CF Drew Waters went 1-for-4 with a triple and run scored in tonight's game...the triple was his fourth of the year and his first since June 24 (12 games between triples)...the Royals' prospect has an extra-base hit in back-to-back games for the first time since hitting a double in both games of a doubleheader on May 26 (vs NOR). ‚¬â€¹
