Bulls Rout Stripers in Series Opener

Lawrenceville, GA- The Durham Bulls (46-39) shut out the Gwinnett Stripers (41-46) 7-0 on Tuesday night to open their six-game set at Coolray Field. Tuesday's win is the Bulls eighth shutout win of the season.

The Bulls struck first in the third inning as 2B Brandon Lowe used an RBI single in the third to initiate the four-run frame. In the following at bat, SS Xavier Edwards lofted a sacrifice fly to stretch the Durham lead to two, and C Rene Pinto went yard on a two-run shot to round out the inning.

In the fifth, 3B Curtis Mead would come alive at the plate, as he tattooed the Bulls' second two-run shot of the night. Later in the seventh, he clubbed an RBI single to round out the Durham scoring on the night. Mead finished the night with two hits, driving in three runs. LF Miles Mastrobuoni also registered two hits on the night, and Lowe led all batter with three hits, driving in three runs.

The Bulls had a great night from their pitching staff as Ryan Yarbrough along with relievers Joel Peguero, Ben Bowden, Calvin Faucher, Dusten Knight and Zack Erwin allowed a combined four hits and no walks, while ringing up nine strikeouts. Peguero earned the win after two innings of work, allowing one hit, and Gwinnett starter Huascar Ynoa picked up the loss.

The Bulls are set to continue the series against the Stripers on Wednesday afternoon for game two of their series. RHP Kevin Herget is scheduled to start for Durham and be opposed by RHP Freddy Tarnok. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05pm.

The Bulls will return to the DBAP for game one of a three-game set versus the Norfolk Tides beginning on Friday, July 22nd. First pitch of the series opener is set for 6:35pm. ‚¬â€¹
