Nailers Stifled by Cincinnati

WHEELING, WV - The Cincinnati Cyclones only had two power-play opportunities but they scored on them both en route to a 4-1 win over the Wheeling Nailers Friday night at WesBanco Arena. The Nailers outshot Cincinnati 40-30 but Cedrick Desjardins made 39 saves to lower his goals-against average to a league-leading 2.01.
Matt Syroczynski, David Desharnais, and Thomas Beauregard each had three points for the Cyclones.
Cincinnati scored first at 8:31 of the first period with Syroczynski scoring just 17 seconds into the Cyclones first power play. An airborne puck landed just outside the crease and within reach of Syroczynski and he knocked it passed Nailers goalie Curtiss Darling for his 14th goal of the season. Both David Desharnais and Thomas Beauregard earned assists on the play.
Still in the first period, the Cyclones expanded their lead to 2-0. On the man-advantage, Desharnais fed Beauregard in the slot and he ripped it over the glove of Darling at 17:45.
Following a scoreless second period, Wheeling found the net at 11:19 of the third. It snapped Desjardins shutout streak at 157:44, stretching back to January 16. Matt Byrnes, in his Nailers and professional debut, wristed one into the net and cut Cincy's lead to just 2-1. Sean Collins and Joe Guenther assisted on the play.
Cory Urquhart and Beauregard each scored in the final 1:34 to secure the 4-1 win for the Cyclones.
The Nailers are back in action Saturday night at WesBanco Arena as the Charlotte Checkers make their only trip of the year to Wheeling. It is "Shred Rich Rodriguez Night" at the game.
