South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - Davis Parley posted his second shut out of the season and Chris Chaput had three assists for the South Carolina Stingrays as they blanked the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-0 at the North Charleston Coliseum.
"I really liked the way we played tonight," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "The guys were obviously not satisfied with last night's effort and showed it."
The first period was dominated by the goaltenders as both Davis Parley and Dan Turple made a number of impressive saves. Neither team had the edge in the period with ample chances coming for both teams. The best chance for the Stingrays came when Cail MacLean tried to find Chris Chaput who was open for a back-door play. But solid defense by former Stingray Bryson Busniuk snuffed out the chance and kept the game scoreless.
In the second period, the Stingrays found their stride. After failing to score on a number of chances in the first period, they got on the board early in the period to take the 1-0. Pat McNeill got his 5th goal of the season to extend his point streak to 12 games dating back to October 24th. McNeill's goal came at 5:12 from Chaput and Grant McNeill. Later in the period on the power play, Chaput found Paul McIlveen for a one timer to make the lead 2-0. McIlveen was playing in his first game since December 30th when he injured his MCL. The goal came at 12:25 from Chaput and Nate Kiser. With time nearly expired in the second, McIlveen took a shot and the rebound was forced in by Mike Gabinet for his second goal of the season. The official time of the goal was 19:59.8 and was assisted by Matt Scherer and McIlveen.
The third period came and went much like the second did. At 14:04 Sean P. Collins got his first professional from Pierre-Luc O'Brien and Scherer making it 4-0. With only nine seconds to go in the period, and on a five on three, Travis Morin got his team leading 21st goal from Chaput and McNeill to make it 5-0, the eventual final.
The winning goaltender was Davis Parley who stopped al 28 shots he faced. This is Parley's second shut out of the season, and second in a row at the North Charleston Coliseum. The losing goaltender was Dan Turple who stopped 31 of the 36 shots he faced. The Rays went one for four on the power play while killing off all four short handed situations they faced.
