Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Scott Kelman snapped a 2-2 tie with 7:31 remaining in regulation and the Phoenix RoadRunners overcame a two goal deficit to defeat the Idaho Steelheads 3-2 before 3,592 at US Airways Center in ECHL action Friday.

Idaho (24-14-7) jumped all over the RoadRunners in the first period as they out-shot Phoenix 19-12 and took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Marty Flichel opened the scoring at 7:43 when Lance Galbraith fed a backdoor pass from the side of the net and Flichel tapped it into the empty cage behind RoadRunners goalie Cody Rudkowsky for a 1-0 lead. John Lammers upped the Steelheads advantage to two when he beat Rudkowsky from the slot 2:07 seconds later at 9:50.

The RoadRunners (16-23-6) fully responded in the second as they out-shot the Steelheads 16-4 in the middle frame and tied the score with a pair of tallies. Justin Maiser got Phoenix on the scoreboard at 3:48 on the power play when Scott Kelman's drive deflected off a stick right to Maiser in the slot, and Maiser snapped it under the left pad of goalie Kellen Briggs. Gino Guyer netted the equalizer minutes later at 6:47 when the rookie made a nifty move around the defense and tucked a backhander through Briggs' pads.

During an up-and-down third period in which both teams had chances, the RoadRunners would be the team to convert as Kelman beat Briggs with a low slap shot to the blocker side at 12:21 on the power play for the winning score.

Idaho out-shot Phoenix 39-36. Rudkowsky stopped 37 shots to improve to 9-15-3 on the year. The RoadRunners went 2-4 on the power play while Idaho was 0-4 with the man-advantage.
