February 1, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The defending American Conference Champion Dayton Bombers extended their winless streak to three games with a tough loss to South division opponent Charlotte Checkers in front of 3,309 at the Nutter Center on Friday night.

Facing the Checkers for the second time this week, both teams found scoring chances but neither team found the back of the net in the first period. Charlotte, playing in front of a Bombers crowd for the second time this season, controlled the game's flow for most of the period, out shooting Dayton 13-6 headed into the break.

Charlotte wasted little time in the middle period, scoring the game's first goal just 1:35 in. The Checkers added another lamplighter in the period, this time at the 9:14 mark to make it 2-0 Charlotte. Dayton would be unable to score in the first forty minutes with Charlotte again out shooting Dayton in the period 8-5.

Mike Walsh scored his 6th goal of the season just 1:29 into period number three. The goal, assisted by Taylor Christie and Chris Eade, highlighted a noticeable resurgence for the Bombers in the early stages of the third. Charlotte's third goal of the night caught the Bombers off guard defensively at the 7:58 mark before Dayton's Masahito Nishiwaki sent home a beautiful centering pass from Yannick Tifu and Matt Beaudoin with a one-timer snapshot at the 10:45 mark to cut the Charlotte lead to just one. Unfortunately, the Bombers were caught off guard once again less than a minute later as the Checkers regained the two-goal lead at the 11:33 mark. Facing a 4-2 Charlotte lead, Bombers head coach Bill McDonald decided to pull the goalie in the closing stages of regulation. The Checkers capitalized on the chance early, scoring an empty net goal at the 18:36 mark for the 5-2 Charlotte final score. Shots in the third favored Dayton 12-8.

With the loss, Dayton's record now stands at 19-1-7 for 45 points and sole possession of fourth place in the North Division. Dayton now travels to the Cambria County War Memorial for a North division duel with the Johnstown Chiefs on Saturday night at 7pm.
