February 1, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League and the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League, are pleased to announce their second "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer", and will once again host the program in conjunction with the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children's Hospital.

The RoadRunners "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will commence at 6:00 p.m. Monday with a special Meet and Greet Party at Phoenix Children's Hospital's Melvin L. Cohen Conference Center located inside the Rosenberg Children's Building on the hospital's main campus.

"Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" is a program that will pair RoadRunners' players with 20 children from across Arizona who suffer from pediatric cancer. For the next two months, the players and children will participate in a series of four social events with the hopes of creating a lasting relationship and increased awareness about childhood cancer in the community.

"We're very excited for the opportunity to do a second 'Face-Off Against Kids Cancer' program with Phoenix Children's," said Director of Broadcasting and Team Services Dan Weiss. "Last year's event was such a wonderful success, and we look to continue to do our part in raising awareness about pediatric cancer and working with these children who truly inspire us every single day."

Other events in the second "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will include a group field trip to the Phoenix Zoo on Saturday, Feb. 9, and a special locker room tour and post-game skate following the RoadRunners game on Sunday, March 2 against the Alaska Aces.

The "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will culminate at 7:11 p.m. Friday, March 14 when the RoadRunners take the ice against the Victoria Salmon Kings wearing special commemorative jerseys dedicated to those Phoenix Children's patients participating in the program. These jerseys will be auctioned off immediately after the game during a live auction inside the Toyota Club with the proceeds benefiting the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children's Hospital and Caps For Kids, a national non-profit organization which provides hats autographed by athletes and celebrities to children who lose their hair due to the effects of chemotherapy.

Last season the RoadRunners raised nearly $20,000 towards their inaugural "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer". The top selling jersey belonged to RoadRunners' goaltender Cody Rudkowsky, whose #30 sweater was purchased for $1,500.

Originated by the Mississippi Sea Wolves Hockey Club of the ECHL in 2003 and later duplicated by both the Atlantic City (N.J.) Boardwalk Bullies Hockey Club and the Fresno Falcons Hockey Club of the ECHL, "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" has touched hundred of lives and raised thousands of dollars in the fight against cancer.

The RoadRunners organization would also like to recognize and thank the Phoenix Zoo and Dad's Catering for their support of the "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer".

Phoenix Children's Hospital is Arizona's leader in pediatric care and is one of the 10 largest free-standing children's hospitals in the nation. The outstanding clinical expertise, as well as high patient volume, and an unwavering commitment to caring only for children, all contribute to Children's leadership position.
