
Fogarty and Byrnes Signed by Nailers

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the "AA" affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers, have announced that they have signed forwards Tanner Fogarty and Matt Byrnes. Both are expected to make their professional debut tonight when the Nailers host the Cincinnati Cyclones.
Fogarty, 24, has spent the last four seasons at Holy Cross College where played not only hockey but was also a member of the lacrosse team. He accumulated eight goals and 13 assists in 111 career hockey games. The 6-foot-1-inch, 200 pound forward is a native of the Pittsburgh area and attended Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh where he was a three-sport athlete.
He attended training camp with both the Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League and the Mon Valley Thunder of the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League at the beginning of this season.
Byrnes, 25, also joins the Nailers from the collegiate ranks. He played four years with Merrimack College finishing up his senior year in 2007. In 137 career games with the Warriors, Byrnes posted 11 goals and 31 assists for 42 points while he added 127 penalty minutes to his collegiate career. The 5-foot-9-inch, 180 pound forward, posted his best numbers during his sophomore season with 14 assists and 16 points in 35 games played.
He participated in the Las Vegas Wranglers training camp before the start of the ECHL season.
